What Types of Volunteer Opportunities are available?

Lesson Volunteers are needed on a daily basis at Mane Stream. Lesson volunteer duties include grooming and tacking the horses prior to lessons, and either leading the horse or sidewalking the rider during the lesson. Volunteers are asked to commit to a day and time of the week when they can provide their services for 1-3 hours during a typical 6-12 week riding session. Mane Stream does not require our volunteers to have any experience with either horses or individuals with disabilities because we provide our own training. Our training sessions are performed in two parts. The first session is a 1½ hour orientation in which we introduce Mane Stream’s programs and inform potential volunteers about their responsibilities. The second session is a follow-up hands-on training session of 3 ½ hours. This training session covers horse behavior, safety, grooming, tacking, sidewalking and leading skills. Volunteers must read the Volunteer Training manual and complete a questionnaire prior to attending the training session. Completed questionnaires should be brought to the training session and will be reviewed as a group. Orientations and trainings will be offered prior to each riding session, and advance registration is required. For more information on Volunteer Training contact Carol Ferris at 908-439-9636 or via email at Volunteer@manestreaminc.org.

Note that volunteers seeking to fulfill court-mandated community service hours will not be working directly with Mane Stream horses and riders, and should contact Holland Kochanski ( Holland@manestreaminc.org ) for details. Although these volunteers may choose to attend an orientation & training now with the intent of later becoming a program volunteer, all court-mandated hours must be completed before a volunteer will be allowed to work with our riders.

Fundraising Volunteers work with our executive director and/or event chairperson to help plan and execute our exciting special events. These events make an impact by directing the community’s attention and support towards Mane Stream, and volunteers play a vital role in their success. For more information on assisting with fundraising, please contact Nichola Redmond, Executive Director at 908-439-9636 or via email at NRedmond@manestreaminc.org

Office Volunteers assist in the administrative functions of Mane Stream, under the direction of staff members. Office duties may include helping with mailings, data entry, filing or answering phones. The hours for office volunteers are flexible.

1-Day Volunteers are also welcome to help with special projects at Mane Stream. For more information on setting up a 1-day project, please contact Nikki Marks at 908-439-9636 or via email at Nikki@manestreaminc.org
